Abstract
According to domestic production of train axles and exceeding applications of them, also because of several break down during in-service carrier that have been reported, considering the accurate inspection systems is more essential. In the case of axle, sensitivity of part and high probability of catastrophic consequences make it more important to performing an organized non destructive testing than before. In this paper after a review on typical axle defections and conventional methods to detect them, phased array method has been investigated. In this matter, train axle ultrasonic inspection by means of phased array technology was carried out for the first time in Iran. Also practical issues and results have been discussed.
